Justin W. Jones Evangelistic Association Spring 2009 Newsletter
Thank you to many of you who responded to our need for financial support in order to remain as evangelists/ missionaries in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and wherever God may choose to send us. Your continued prayers, financial support, emails, cards, and calls of encouragement mean more to us than you will ever know. God reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans for good and not for evil to give you a future and a hope.”
We hope your Easter season is a time of joy, family, worship and reflection on just how good God has been to you! In times (like these) of much uncertainty, we have a Lord and Savior who is sovereign (in control) and constantly at work in our everyday lives and activities. We can trust in His providential care!!
God is good all the time. All the time God is good.
REMEMBERING Mrs. Mabel
On March, 6, 2009, I had the privilege of traveling to my hometown of Clinton, NC to assist with the funeral service for Mabel West.
Mrs. Mabel served as church secretary at First Baptist Church, Clinton for 28 years. (1963-1990). She served with my dad (Bill Jones), who was pastor at First Baptist, from 1963-1983. More importantly, Mrs. Mabel was a true servant for her Lord and a loving presence in the church office.
Personally speaking, Mrs. Mabel was a dear friend of our family and a patient, loving friend to my dad! On many occasions, she would “look after” me at the church office, while daddy would make phone calls, counsel members or just “catch up” with office work.
Now you must understand that “looking after” this preacher’s kid, who was all over the place all the time, was no easy task.
I shared at the funeral that “Mrs. Mabel was the only one who knew where my numerous hiding places were in the church.” Also, on many occasions, Mrs. Mabel would have to clean me up because I had gotten into something that I was not suppose to be in. (I specifically remember the purple ink from the old mimeograph machine used to run off the bulletins) Bless her heart!!
My dad was truly blessed to have Mrs. Mabel as a co-worker and a friend. As my dear friend, Rev. E.C. Mattocks shared at the funeral, “Mrs. Mabel had a gift to discern (from those who would come to the church asking for food, rent, money, etc.) who really needed help and who did not. My preacher (Bill Jones) did not have that gift. The preacher would have given away everything the church owned and he owned.”
(Can I get an AMEN from anyone!?)
Mrs. Mabel had to have patience to work in a church office for 28 years. Of course, the Lord always has a plan and He worked His plan for all those many years through Mrs. Mabel, Preacher Jones and other dear pastors.
Often, the pastor and ministerial staff get all the credit for “kingdom work” accomplished in a church. However, if it were not for faithful members and secretaries like Mrs. Mabel, things would not run as smoothly for the other staff members.
After my mom died (1972) and even after my dad passed away (1986), Mrs. Mabel remained a true friend to me. In 1988 she came to hear me preach outside of Clinton, NC at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, and 20 years later (in 2008) she came to hear me again at the same church. Also, she traveled to Topsail Island, NC one Sunday in November, 2007, just to hear me preach.
Now that is true love and friendship!
Thank you, Mrs. Mabel, for loving me, my dad, my family, and the entire church family the way you did! I promise to think of and pray for Pat, Betty, Sandra and their dear families often.
I look forward to seeing you again soon!
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Justin
Kid’s Worship
At
New Horizon Community Church
Each Sunday morning at 10:00 am in the mirrored exercise room at the Yadkinville YMCA we worship and praise Jesus Christ kidstyle!! We sing and move, pray and listen. We enjoy Bible study, scripture memorization, games, arts and crafts. We share the gospel message and the Bible with sisters, Alana & Carlie Eddleman, Megan Eddleman, Gina Myers, and sisters, Madeline and Olivia Stenson. Ten year old, Gina Myers is already a missionary in that she regularly brings friends with her to Kid’s Worship. Her mom, Holly, shared that recently while riding bikes on Sunday afternoon with friends, Gina sang, “I’ll Tell the World That I’m a Christian.” What a priceless gift and a source of joy to see these young ladies growing in their understanding of Jesus Christ!!! We look forward to seeing these children and some of their parents trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior soon. Continue to pray for us as we minister in the fields that Jesus said were “ripe for the harvest”. As we celebrate the resurrection power of Easter this week, our prayer is that your life will be impacted by this message in a fresh and meaningful way. For nothing is impossible with God. Luke 1:37.
I love you, Lisa
