The purpose of these webpages is to make easily available to the public some audio recordings and some written documents of sermons and Bible teaching by the Reverend L. W. Onstead during his years as a Pentecostal minister of the Gospel. Brother Onstead gently attempts to enlighten those of differing beliefs through “rightly dividing the word of truth.”
I (Roger Baxter, site editor) was born in Corning, Arkansas, in 1951 while the Reverend Leonard W. Onstead was the pastor of the First Pentecostal Church there. And Brother Onstead was probably my father's (Johnie Baxter) most respected preacher and Bible teacher — and my father, in addition to being a dedicated student of the Bible himself, was eager to learn from others who sought and presented the Truthes of the scriptures.
Even after my family had moved away from Corning when I was a young boy, we kept in touch with Reverend Onstead and his family. One of his sons even stayed in our home in Rockford, Illinois for about a year while he was attending college at Beloit, Wisconsin. And throughout the period of my growing up Rev. Onstead would stay with my family for a week or two at a time while ministering in churches in the areas of Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois where we lived during those years.
As I grew in my own understanding of the teachings found in the Bible, I followed in the footsteps of my father and Brother Onstead in being intellectually honest in “rightly dividing the word of truth.” Like my father, I became a devoted admirer of the teachings of Rev. Onstead. And when my father gave me a reel-to-reel tape recorder for Christmas in 1966 I began recording various public events such as church singings … and sermons and Bible teaching, such as that of Rev. Onstead.
Those audio recordings have become the basis for the creation of this website. In addition to those I have digitized a few reel-to-reel tapes that Brother Onstead provided to my father of his teaching on other topics. And to round out this presentation of his Bible teaching ministry I have included the text of some doctrinal tracts and pamphlets that Rev. Onstead wrote.
So now you, the website visitor, are in for a real treat, whether this is the first time you have ever heard of this man, or have heard stories of him told by old timers, or have been a follower of his ministry for many years, I present to you, the Reverend Leonard W. Onstead — just click on the topic of your choice, from either the listing on the left or the images on the right, to listen to or read his enjoyable and enlightening Biblical teaching.
Could You Help Us?
I am sure that my personal library of recordings and writings of Brother Onstead are not the only items left of his teaching. And I would love being able to add other messages of his on various topics that you or someone you know might have kept over the years. If you know about, or have any such items that you would be willing to temporarily loan for this purpose (we would copy and then return them to you unharmed), please let us know.
