This is the B-side of a 45 RPM recording of a country western song which was recorded by the three Baxter brothers after the family group had stopped traveling and singing gospel songs throughout the midwestern states. This recording was originally made about 50 years ago by the Baxter brothers in Nashville, Tennessee, a while after they had performed for a period of 4 months at Opryland ... and so this digital reproduction has been made from a vinyl record that has seen many years of use. While great care has been taken to attempt to restore it to its original lustre you may still be able to detect some of the audio defects inherent on these old recordings.Rick Baxter, the eldest of the three brothers in this vocal group, says of this digital audio reproduction:"The single "Take Me Back to the Country" was released by Sun Records Nashville in 1980. It was the B-side of a song called "John" which was a tribute to John Lennon (of The Beatles fame) from Sun Records. "John" didn't do well on the radio, but due to the efforts of our manager, who was also working as a record promoter for Sun Records, the DJs started playing the B-side "Take Me Back to the Country", and Baxter Baxter & Baxter (the name Sun Records gave us) climbed to 78 in Billboard's Top 100 Country Singles. So much for our claim to fame."
Duncan, Rick and Mark Baxter c.1980 Sun Records released one other 45 RPM single by the Baxter brothers. The A-side was a song called "Lying". It also charted, but did not do as well as the first single. The B-side was one of the songs that Rick Baxter wrote called "Wanna Love You More" and was the only one of their four Sun Records recordings that was written by the Baxter brothers. So here is "Take Me Back to the Country"! We hope that you enjoy listening to it! |
