Fall 2011
Celebrating a Life
On September 14, 2011 my cousins, Morty, Susan, and Ross,
celebrated the life of their mom, Jane Jones along with myself,
Lisa, Bob Richardson, Paula and John Compton (my sister and
brother-in-law) and other family members and friends.
Aunt Jane was a long time member of First
Baptist Church, Henderson, NC where her funeral service was
held. My brother in Christ, cousin, and husband of Susan Jones
Richardson (Bob) spoke at the funeral. Bob talked about Aunt
Jane, life, death, eternity, and how Jesus “reclaimed his future”!
(God bless you both, Bob and Susan, as the Lord uses you in
your “Reclaiming Futures” nationwide ministry based in Portland,
Oregon.) We sang, laughed, cried and said “AMEN” in unison
during the service!
What a blessing it was to see my cousins,
remember times we spent together growing up, and to honor
Aunt Jane. My heart goes out to my cousins during this time of
great loss. However, I am so thankful that Aunt Jane will never
suffer for one more moment. She is now safe in the arms of
Jesus having left her “earthly tent” behind and free of any earthly
hindrance.
If you are reading this and have questions
about heaven and eternity, consider two books that have meant
much to me in the past few months:
and
Heaven is For Real by Todd Burpo.
Let me tell you what I believe. I believe
beyond a shadow of a doubt that heaven is for real! I am looking
forward to reuniting with loved ones and friends. I am looking
forward to heaven! I don’t deserve to go to heaven, but I am
going anyway because of what Jesus has done for me. I believe
that anyone and everyone that trusts Jesus Christ with all of their
heart will be born again and receive the greatest gift ever given,
SALVATION.
A young man once said to me: “Justin, I'm too much of a sinner to be saved.” I told the young man that nobody was too sinful and that Jesus had already paid the debt for his sins, my sins and everybody’s sins! That was over 20 years ago and I still believe it with every fiber of my being!! All I plan to do as long as I’m breathing is share this GOOD NEWS with as many people as I can!!
Life Lessons at Fifty
Saturday, August 20, 2011, Justin and I celebrated our 28th
wedding anniversary. It’s amazing that God has sustained us
through 28 years of love, life, and full-time Christian ministry!
Saturday, September 3, 2011, I celebrated 50 years that God has
given me to learn and grow in Him. It’s especially challenging
when AARP invites you to join them!! I’m not ready for that yet!
In reflecting on my life to this point I thought I’d share with you
what God is teaching me.
1-Justin has taught me that “without faith
it is impossible to please God” Hebrews 11:6. And “faith is the
assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not
seen.” Hebrews 11:1 My faith is that of a mustard seed at times.
2-Mother and Daddy taught me that “love
is patient, love is kind, love is not arrogant, does not act
unbecomingly, love does not seek it’s own.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-
5 They also taught me that “in quietness and confidence(faith)is
your strength”. And that God honors & blesses those who
faithfully serve Him. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
3-Bob Richardson confirms to me “if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have
passed away; behold new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Bob, a sober alcoholic, is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ
that transforms his life. Shalom, Bob!
4- Jesus continues to teach me amazing
grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once
was lost, but now I’m found; was blind but now I see .”
5-Jesus proves himself over and over. “I
will never leave you, nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5. “The Lord
is my shepherd, I shall not want. He leads me beside quiet
waters. He restores my soul.” Psalm 23:1-3.
